The Mari Sandoz Heritage Society is hosting a four-day workshop for writers of poetry, fiction and non-fiction from May 28-May 31, 2013 on the Chadron State College campus. Writers of all levels are invited to attend and explore their creativity and gain insight from noted authors.
Each workshop is led by published authors or writing professionals and sessions are open to aspiring writers of all ages (16 and up) and abilities (Students must be rising juniors or older and will need to show proof of student status to receive student registration fees.)
This is an exceptional opportunity for aspiring writers to work with published professionals and authors to sharpen their skills in a small class setting.
Two different levels of workshops are offered:
- Two-day morning sessions for beginning students offer a choice of Fiction, Poetry and Non-Fiction Prose.
- Three-day morning sessions for intermediate to advanced students (who have written documents to review.) These workshops are Memoir Writing/Nonfiction taught by Linda Hasselstrom and Fiction taught by Pamela Carter Joern. Early registration is advised. Intermediate workshops are limited to 12.
- Afternoon sessions for all registered attendees will be taught by authors and publishers on various topics. Notable teachers for these sessions include Jonis Agee, Paula Bosco Damon, Kwame Dawes and Marianne Kunkel, publisher of “The Prairie Schooner.”
On Friday afternoon, May 31, a writers festival, open to the workshop attendees and the public, will be held on at the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center in Chadron, Neb. from 1–5 p.m. The festival will include readings from workshop participants, talks by authors, publishers and others associated with writing.
